Patch 1.04 - "The Map Update"
Hi everyone! Trent here, back with another update!
First, a big thanks to everyone who downloaded, played and gave feedback last week. I have never seen this kind of support with any of my projects before, and I am so grateful that you took a chance on Wizzerd Quest. I want to start this post with some housekeeping changes that I think you will appreciate.
I know how frustrating it is when you have to sit and wait for a game you want to play to update. With that in mind, we are moving away from patches going out randomly every couple days. Moving forward, will release larger, combined updates, and always release them on Saturday (unless something catches fire catastrophically). My hope is to offer you larger, more substantial content additions now that most of the major bugs are fixed. Anyone old enough to remember Seecret Saturday? Ah, classic gaming memories...
So with that in mind, let's get into the patch notes. 1.04 incorporates a TON of requests from the community. Let's go through them:
NEW FEATURES
- Added a map and quest log. Pressing TAB (keyboard) or Select (controller) will now show a map and journal with information about your current location and quest.
- Lootable objects now have a label above them to denote that they can be interacted with. This will help prevent players from missing important loot, especially in the early game.
- Added a compass to the HUD bar to help players orient themselves.
- Added a progress bar under the player's level that shows progress to a level-up.
- Added a text prompt when bartering that explains how to switch the highlighted inventory item. This will cut down in the issue players have reported where they can't figure out how to barter since it wasn't featured in the tutorial.
- The game's current version number is now visible on the title screen.
- The game's executable file no longer includes the version number. This prevents the Steam shortcuts (such as on Steam Deck) from breaking every time there is an update.
BUG FIXES
- Fixed an issue where enemies could hurt the player after they already died.
- Fixed a 1.03 regression that prevented the mouse from being used when leveling up.
- Slightly buffed enemy XP gain.
- All melee enemies now use the same base pathfinding script and will stop chasing the player if the distance between them gets too far. This kills the previously reported AI bug that caused the framerate to tank when wandering around the open world.
The Known Issues section of the game's page is getting awful thin these days. With that in mind, I am pivoting to new content updates moving forward. If anyone is interested in contributing to this game, or building some dungeons, please let me know. Ideally I'd turn this over to the community in a proper open-source capacity, but unfortunately, some of the asset licenses (particularly the sound effects) legally prevent me from doing this. But if you want to help, reach out! I am sure we can come to some kind of arrangement that allows you to stretch your creative muscles.
Thank you, everyone, for one of the best weeks of my life. It is an honor and a pleasure to serve these updates to you.
-Trent
